Vintage Pet Art Gifts - Dog, Cat, Horse Portraits and Classics > VINTAGE HORSE ART > CRUSADER
| This unusual illustration is from the Manesse Codex, created between 1305-1340 in Zurich. The Manex Codex contains records of love songs wrtitten by important German poets. Several of these were famous rulers. This is a striking graphic depicting one such knight and ruler by the name of Hartmann von Aue, who took part in the crusades of 1197. His symbol is the Eagle and he holds his banner high. (Hartmann von Aue is noted for the Arthurian romances and for his courtly epics).
