DOG TRAINING:
Eugene Remy (van Sluys) Maes was an animal painter from Belgium (1849-1931). He loved to paint animals in their natural enviroment. This vintage pet artwork entitled "Dog Training" is a perfect example of this. It's painted in a barnyard stable setting and depicts a dog standing on a barrel being trained by his master. Surrounding the seated "dog trainer" are roosters and hens. A small kitty cat rolls on the straw covered earth. A bird, possibly a dove, is watching the scene from a tiled roof.
